Industry Background: Asphalt pavements under heavy traffic and creep loads still frequently suffer damage and require repair, resulting in a huge waste of resources.

While the durability of asphalt pavements on ordinary road sections in my country has been largely resolved, rutting still frequently occurs on sections with high traffic volume, heavy loads, and low-speed, demanding conditions (in severe cases, the rutting depth reaches 10cm within 1-2 years), leading to excessively short pavement life. Once rutting occurs, it endangers driving safety and generally requires milling and repaving repairs. It is the most damaging, costly, and long-standing problem for asphalt pavements in the industry.

    Product Characteristics

    Currently, commonly used solutions in the industry, such as SBS modified asphalt and anti-rutting agents, are mainly applied to ordinary road sections and cannot meet the durability requirements of heavily loaded and demanding road sections for quantitative control of rutting life and maintenance without rutting damage within the design life. Some road sections have to use cement concrete pavement or semi-flexible pavement due to concerns about rutting damage, but construction is complex and maintenance costs are higher.

    Solution

    Rutting-Free Asphalt Pavement Transforms "Old Repair, Old Damage" Road Sections into "Unbreakable" Road Surfaces

    Lierdetong pioneered the establishment of a rutting life index for asphalt mixtures. Combining the latest breakthroughs in materials, they proposed a design concept and solution for rutting-free asphalt pavement: maintaining the rutting depth index (RDI) of the asphalt pavement at or above "good" throughout its design life, preventing rutting deeper than 1.5cm, and avoiding pavement maintenance due to flow deformation-related defects.


    Design Methodology: Introducing traffic volume parameters to establish a rutting life design method based on the relative multiple relationship of historical schemes.


    Addressing the rutting mechanism and the impact of load levels and traffic volume on rutting depth in demanding heavy traffic sections, a relative design system for asphalt pavement based on rutting life was developed. They also led the compilation of the industry's first standard quantifying rutting life: "Technical Guidelines for the Application of Modified Asphalt Mixtures in Rutting-Prone Road Sections."

    New Material

    Rutting-Free Asphalt Pavement Modifier, Achieving "Rigid-Flexible Composite" Modification Effect for Asphalt. Based on its original dry SBS technology, Lierdetong grafted a new type of single-component epoxy and chemically modified it to achieve "embedding" and network curing of the sliding ends of SBS chains. This achieves the application effect of asphalt concrete not flowing and deforming under high temperature and heavy load, and the invented new material is called Rutting-Free Asphalt Pavement Modifier.


    While achieving the ultimate resistance to rutting and load damage at high temperatures, rutting-free asphalt pavement also retains the water damage resistance, low-temperature cracking resistance, fatigue resistance, and anti-scattering properties of SBS modified asphalt concrete.

    Construction Process

    Only the addition of the modifier step is required; a full range of technical services can be provided to ensure the project's success. The construction process for rutting-free asphalt pavement is simple and controllable, requiring only the addition of the modifier step; otherwise, it is essentially the same as the construction of ordinary hot-mix asphalt. No curing is required after construction; traffic can be opened once the road surface temperature drops to 50°C, reducing traffic congestion caused by construction.
